Hello, everyone!
I have to make this post quick, since in a few minutes I will be in a place with no access to wifi.
Nonetheless, there’s some big news: American President Joe Biden is making a visit to Saudi Arabia, to try and rekindle the relationship between the two countries. This is an uncomfortable visit for everyone, seeing as the Saudis have been marked with a number of human rights abuses. There are links between Saudi leaders and the murders of journalists, and their courts have sentenced activists to death. They also enforce Sharia (Islamic) law, even if the laws aren’t directly on paper - this includes punishments to those who do not follow the strict Islamic moral code. Biden vowed to punish Saudi Arabia for these crimes.
Thus, it’s not particularly surprising that he did not meet a particularly enthusiastic greeting when he arrived in that very country. So far, the Saudi welcome has been polite but underwhelming. The greeting is far less than that of Barack Obama, and absolutely tiny compared to Donald Trump’s.
Not a great start, but not terrible either.
My favorite scene so far? The Crown Prince and President Joe exchanging a cool fist bump. Seriously. Look it up.
Sorry if this one isn't perfect - I had to hustle it.
As always, good article!
