Guys, temperatures of high 70s and mid-80s may not seem hot to you, but for a Washingtonian used to rain and hail, this is like the Sahara. I’ll do my best to remain coherent, though.
Quick thing: I published my last post quite a bit later than usual, so you might not have gotten the email notification - I noticed that a lot less people have read it. Here’s the link. I think it’s one of my better posts.
Now, in the news today, Biden is making more efforts to expand and strengthen America’s position as a world leader. His latest attempt is by announcing yesterday that he will hold a US-African summit in mid-December. It will include leaders from across the African continent, and aim to combat everything from food insecurity to climate change.
“The summit will demonstrate the United States’ enduring commitment to Africa, and will underscore the importance of U.S.-Africa relations and increased cooperation on shared global priorities.” Biden said in a statement. According to an article from Reuters, (from which the above quote was sourced) the summit aims “toward new economic engagement, [to] promote democracy and human rights, [to] advance peace and security, and address challenges such as food security and climate change as well as the pandemic.” This summit is part of a series of endeavors Biden has made this year not only to strengthen international diplomatic ties, but to push back against China’s ever-expanding influence. The outlook seems good; an anonymous senior administration official has said that roughly 50 African leaders will attend the meetings, which will occur from December 13th to 15th. The US isn’t waiting for December to start its campaign, though; the US agency for International Development has already provided nearly 1.3 billion dollars in aid to the Horn of Africa countries of Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia.
Overall, it’s a positive outlook for the US, Africa, and world. International cooperation leads to global solutions.
