Hey guys!
Now, I’ve thought long and hard about what to write about today, since there is an unfortunate shortage of positivity in this world. So, today, I decided to document how far we’ve come in the fight against Covid-19.
Well over two years ago, in early 2020, the world was turned upside down. Suddenly, there was a deadly virus in our midst, seeming to reside in every other person. Shops were closed. Work moved into the home. Dinner was takeout or home-cooked. Schools were shuttered, leaving kids with neglected online curriculums. And Covid would not rest with upending our lives; it took many too. Over 500 million people have contracted the virus, and 6 million of them have died. For over a year, the pandemic raged freely, taking more lives every day. There seemed to be no end, no source of hope.
Until the first vaccines rolled out. First came Phizer, then Moderna, then Johnson & Johnson. It was a miracle; Guinness World Records has the Phizer vaccine as the fastest vaccine response to a new disease in world history. Gradually, as more people got their two shots, (and eventually three, including the booster) the casualty rates declined. Now, compared to previous levels, they are almost nonexistent.
And now, look at us: just today I have visited a friend, gone to a store, and went inside a restaurant… all without needing a mask! Slowly but surely, we are returning to normalcy. Almost everything’s open now; museums, malls, amusement parks, and all the joys of modern times.
We’ve come far in our fight against the coronavirus, but we’ve proven that no matter how bleak a situation may seem, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.
“All the joys of modern times.” Love this !
