Jan. 6 Hearings
Now, this is a tricky subject, but I’ll do my best to be nonpartisan: the January 6th committee has been holding its first hearings this week. The committee has been using these hearings to implicate Trump as the inciter and encouragement of the attempted insurrection of the capital building by Trump supporters, as they tried to stop the counting of the electoral votes. Now, the focus is on Trump’s dealings with his VP, Mike Pence.
According to the January 6th committee, Mike Pence and Donald Trump had a particularly frosty relationship leading up to the storming of the capitol. Trump pressured his VP hard to aid him in his quest to overturn the election, though evidence landed the victory soundly in Biden’s favor. According to testimony by Pence’s top white house lawyer, there had been a plot for an overturn the counting of the votes. Clearly, Pence refused to comply, since when the supporters of Trump charged up those stairs to America’s most powerful building, they were calling for his death.
For all this dispute and treachery, one thing is clear: on that day, according to the committee chairman, “our democracy came dangerously close to catastrophe.”
The Game Begins
It’s been weeks since a shooter walked into Robb’s Elementary school and unleashed hell on earth. Weeks since there was a shooting in Buffalo, an attack committed because of racism. There have been shootings in Wisconsin, Philadelphia; so much death, so much needless carnage. There was a little hope that a bipartisan committee that had been created to address these problems would make some headway, but it hasn’t been encouraging. "I don't know what they have in mind, but I'm through talking," said one senator. The lead Republican of the committee walked out of the meeting altogether. The head Democrat representative says he is still hopeful of the talks, but that’s a fairly polar reception.
I’ve said it before in other posts, and I’ll say it as many times as necessary.
We must do something. Anything.
Please.
I’m a kid, a high schooler, and I don’t want to be next.
You said it all in a nutshell!! Thank you again!! Stay safe, healthy and love you guys!
PS we have monarchs hatching in our little “safe haven” here in OB. It is fascinating! I know how much you and your brother love the outdoors. Xoxoxo
