During my short stint as a newsletter author, I have done my best to remain optimistic. Unfortunately, today - when I would ordinarily publish my “Good News” post - I feel that bright outlook slipping away from me. Why? I think we all know the answer: the world can be a pretty awful place. Every time I look at the news, I can find something disheartening. There’s the Ukrainian War, the chaos in Sri Lanka, the desolate US political landscape, American gun violence, Africa’s many woes, Middle Eastern conflict. It’s too much, too fast. It can feel like you’re drowning.
The world changes and develops in ways that we cannot imagine; often, those changes aren’t in the way we wanted or expected. It’s understandable that it can be overwhelming sometimes.
Now, this is not to say that the world is doomed, nor that we need to crawl into a hole and ignore the planet forever. It is vital that we stay in the know of our world, to be better connected as a citizen of the Earth. But sometimes, we need to take a step back, give ourselves a break. Reading about the latest updates on the events in Europe, America, Asia, Africa, can wait a few minutes. For everyone, even me.
Until next time
- Note: this post did not have a specific purpose, but there was little to write about for “Good News” and I was inspired to write this piece. Bear with me, the normal posts will stay on schedule.
Good News…..a smile on your grandchild’s face, a wiggly tail wag from your furry friend, sunshine peaking through the clouds, finding a ripe strawberry hiding in your garden, sometimes it is just a collection of small things that become Good News for the day.
Sometimes we have to find the good news - tel is something good about your weekend! Tell us something interesting like a fun fact weekend newsletter - we can be the good news, if we can’t find it somewhere 💕
